Managing Risks Both Outside and Inside Your Building

Indoor air quality (IAQ) is a crucial concern for your employees’ health and comfort—and it carries significant regulatory considerations, as well.

ERMI helps building owners contend with a host of threats to indoor air quality, among them:

  • Hazardous materials (asbestos, lead, PCBs, etc.)
  • Bio contaminants (mold, bacteria, dust mites, etc.)
  • Airborne particulates
  • Volatile organic compounds (various fumes)
  • Comfort parameters (temperature, humidity, etc.)

Once widely used in the construction industry, asbestos has been linked to lung, stomach, and colon cancers…and is the primary cause of mesothelioma.

While bans were imposed on some specific asbestos products in the 1970s and 80s, some current building materials can still contain asbestos — and NIOSH states that there are NO safe levels of asbestos in workplaces. Property owners can even face criminal charges for negligence toward asbestos.

So before you undertake any remodeling or renovation project in a commercial building, contact ERMI.

We can handle:
• Quantification and location of identified asbestos-containing materials
• Sampling and classification of asbestos content
• Determination of condition of materials
• General recommendations regarding abatement and disposal options

Water Intrusion, Mold, and “Sick Building Syndrome”

The damage from storms and hurricanes doesn’t stop when the waters subside: mold and mildew resulting from the moisture can cause long-term problems in a building. Most significantly, molds can produce toxins and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can threaten the health of anyone in the building—but especially those with respiratory conditions, allergies, and immune system disorders.

ERMI’s team includes a Licensed Mold Assessor. Once we get to the source of those moisture-related issues, we can provide objective guidance on evaluating the potential remedies.
