ERMI Plays a Part in South Florida Brownfields Symposium

(L-R) ERMI’s Ozzie Rodriguez and Senator Kathleen Passidomo join ERMI president Steve Hilfiker as he receives a certificate recognizing ERMI’s sponsorship of the Symposium.

Earlier this month, ERMI’s Steve Hilfiker participated in the 6th annual South Florida Brownfields Symposium in Sebring.

The conference focused on growth management planning for the State of Florida over the next 25 years, particularly as it relates to the redevelopment of “brownfields” (former industrial/commercial sites).

Hilfiker was the moderator and a speaker on a “Transaction Risk Management” panel, which focused on growth management in Florida — as well as on strategies to manage risks inherent in impacted real estate transactions.

Senator Kathleen Passidomo presented the keynote address, and Steve presented the 2018 legislative session report, along with a brief look ahead to the 2019 session.

Brownfields redevelopment is a significant topic in the state, because by reclaiming and redeveloping those abandoned urban/commercial sites, Florida can protect unused land, while encouraging growth and revitalization.

The Symposium was hosted by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in association with the Southwest FL Regional Planning Council and the Brownfields Association. ERMI was both an exhibitor and a silver sponsor for the event.
